Next week students and residents across the Liverpool City Region (LCR) will be able to sample for themselves what life would be like working in the tourism industry.
Now in its fifth year, ‘Visitor Economy Week’ runs from 3-7 February, offering taster sessions covering hospitality, retail, tourism and travel. During the week there are over 40 events being run by the further education colleges in the LCR.
The week targets anyone interested in the visitor economy sector as a career choice – from school leavers and college students through to those just starting out in employment or looking for a career change.
This year’s sponsors are Liverpool Hospitality Association, and Apprenticeship Support by Be More – who promote apprenticeships across the Liverpool City Region. The week is being launched at the Maritime Museum on 3 February.

- On Tuesday 4 February, The City of Liverpool College will be hosting a Game Larder Seminar event at the student-run Academy Restaurant. World-renowned leading game chef and Senior Lecturer in Culinary Arts at Westminster Kingsway College, Jose Suto, will deliver a condensed version of his acclaimed Game Larder Seminar and will then work with The City of Liverpool College’s Royal Academy of Culinary Arts (RACA) Apprentices to prepare a game inspired dinner.
- Wirral Met College will be hosting a ‘Young Make-up Artist of the Year’ competition on Wednesday 5 February
- During an ‘Introduction to the Travel Industry’ on 5 February students from Southport College will use a mock aircraft and spend the morning training to become a flight attendant, with full demonstrations and lots of hands on opportunities. In the afternoon they will become resort reps, learning all the key skills involved.
- The Pullman Hotel will be doing a masterclass in cocktail making on the 5 February
- The City of Liverpool College will be investigating the physical and chemical transformations of ingredients that occur in cooking in ‘Molecular Gastronomy’ on 6 February.
- There will be a ‘Skills Show’ of employers from service industries giving more details about job opportunities at St Helens College and Knowsley College on 5 February.
