Grants for rural business development
The Rural Growth National Fund provides grants for rural business development, food processing businesses and those involved in rural tourism infrastructure. Grants, funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), start at a minimum of £20,000 and applicants can apply for up to 40% of eligible costs.
The maximum grant for business development and tourism projects will be limited to £175,000, whilst the maximum grant for food processing projects will be limited to £750,000. The Rural Payments Agency will be presenting the funding opportunities and will be able to give 1-2-1 advice on the day.
Application is in two stages and organisations must first submit an Expressions of Interest (EOI) form. If successful at this stage, organisations will be invited to formally apply. EOI forms must be received by 16 February 2020. Funding bids must be submitted by 31 May 2020.
Am I eligible?
If you are a business based within one of Liverpool City Region’s local authorities (Liverpool, Halton, Knowsley, St Helen’s, Sefton, Wirral), you may be eligible to apply, please check the eligibility criteria for each priority.

Can support businesses of any size (priority for SMEs) in rural or urban areas across the city region and has a maximum grant of £750k
- Rural Tourism Infrastructure
- Business Development
If you are a micro (0-9) or small (10-50) business, located within the rural areas within the city region you may be eligible to apply – maximum grant £175,000. Groups representing rural communities, charities and public sector bodies are also eligible under the tourism strand.
Minimum grant available: £20,000 (40% intervention rate) (e.g. £20,000 grant would require 60% cash match = £30,000 = Total Project £50,000).
