We’re losing the match and its time for the second half, but Liverpool does like a good halftime comeback.
It’s time for everybody to get on the pitch.
Today 2030hub and Liverpool City Region’s sustainability community formally kicks-off Global Goals Week: Liverpool 2023, our annual week of action, awareness and accountability for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We will be convening events, conversations, successes, challenges, debates and actions for home and abroad, with a distinctly Liverpool perspective.
This year is a pivotal moment for the SDGs. It’s the halfway point of their 15-year lifespan. Expect historic announcements and statements from Presidents and Prime Ministers – but also many of our city’s leaders – formal and informal. The first half has been brutal. Covid, accelerating climate crisis and conflict-shattering peace around the globe demand bravery and action, from everybody. And now!
Between the 15th and 24th September 2023 we will do everything we can to bring sustainability thought-leadership into the city whilst also creating a bridge to take Liverpool’s leadership and successes out to the world.
Global Goals Week runs in parallel to world leaders gathering in New York City for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and aims to provide a unique platform to cultivate ideas, explore new collaboration, challenge the status quo and identify new solutions to local AND global climate, conflict and inequality challenges. One particular focus at UNGA will be the SDG Summit as a springboard to announce a new phase of transformative actions to accelerate progress.
Global Goals Week: Liverpool 2023 sees the launch of a new local theme as 2030hub aspires to ignite a stronger local environmental debate through Liverpool Climate Week (LCW) as an overdue successor to Liverpool Year of Environment in 2019. We are creating a series of focused high-level provocation events engaging both local community and global expert perspectives. This year we are targeting Liverpool’s economic strengths around finance and property whilst also facilitating a planetary demanded focus on net zero.

“We didn’t dare consider what we have now seen and dealt with around the world since 2015 when the Global Goals were launched. It’s time to reset. This September will see world leaders announce bolder commitments to the SDGs as the only agreed high-level blueprint for the planet – and we want Liverpool City Region to take its deserved place alongside those leaders by mirroring those ambitions. By showing what we have all already done, and what we intend to do for the second half in a way only Liverpool can, this city region can shine around the world. Global Goals Week: Liverpool 2023 is our showcase for what a passionate, sustainable, fair and collaborative city can look like.” said 2030hub Founder, David Connor.
2030hub has been hosting monthly stakeholder calls for a while now and these are open to anybody wanting to find out more and join the rapidly growing community of Liverpool changemakers supporting each other! The next call is Weds 16 Aug and you can register here.
