The final Meet-up of this academic year is focused on the charity sector and should appeal to those who are either involved in or are interested in setting up a charitable initiative or pursuing a career in charity. Important entities in the economy and society with 170,000+ charities contributing to £90bn of turnover and employing 1.3m people. The overwhelming majority of charitable organisations are small and face the demands of all enterprises – plus the others that are involved with being a charity.
For this Meet-up, the Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship are delighted to welcome Sharne Williams, CEO and co-founder of the Paul Lavelle Foundation, a frontline therapeutic service for victims and survivors of domestic abuse set up in memory of her late friend Paul Lavelle. The service is focused on recovery and is designed to provide a person-centred blend of therapeutic, advocacy, advice and signposting support activities.
As a co-founder of the charity, Sharne will set the scene, talking about the circumstances that led her to setting up the charity, the work it does in the local community and how it has evolved since it was first set up seven years ago. She will also talk about the steps involved in setting up and running a charitable foundation which include identifying a strong cause, having a clear vision and being surrounded by a great team of volunteers and board trustees. Sharne will also cover bid writing, fundraising and event planning in her talk.
You’ll also learn more about the ways that the Liverpool Business Clinic and Legal Advice Centre can support local start-ups, SMEs and entrepreneurs.
As always they’ll be the opportunity to network informally with other entrepreneurial individuals whilst enjoying free food and refreshments.
