Apprentices bring Easter cheer to Knowsley residents

To celebrate Easter, apprentices from Knowsley based Livv Housing Group organised and ran a series of Easter workshops for customers to combat social isolation at five of its sheltered accommodation schemes across the borough.

The pandemic resulted in many people’s wellbeing being compromised as a result of feeling isolated.

Spearheaded by apprentice, Alex McClune, who works in the customer facing team, and with the support of eight fellow apprentices, the five workshops took place over the two weeks leading up to Easter.

The communal halls of Livv’s sheltered accommodation schemes in Prescot, Kirkby and Halewood were kitted out with Easter themed decorations and residents were invited to join the apprentices for an afternoon of fun and games.

Activities on offer included card decorating, crosswords and puzzles, Easter bonnet making as well as a group game of bingo, with chocolate eggs to be won.

Amanda Newton, Executive Director at Livv Housing Group said: “Activities where people could just come together to socialise and have some fun have been very limited over the past two years. Whilst we’ve focused on ensuring that people are safe and well during the pandemic, there’s nothing better than getting people together.

“We were thrilled to be able to put on the Easter workshops for our customers and delighted to see the enthusiasm and creativity from our apprentices to get involved. The workshops – from initial idea through to buying and sourcing all the equipment and running the workshops on the day – were all the work of our team of apprentices and we are extremely proud of them. The feedback from the residents has been really positive and it’s been brilliant to be able to see the smiles on their faces.

“Our schemes are designed to promote independent living for all ages but our aim is to also ensure that our customers are living somewhere with a real sense of community. Initiatives such as the Easter workshops contributes towards this as it brings people and neighbourhoods together, helping people to live happy, successful and fulfilled lives.”

One of the residents who participated in the workshops commented: “We’ve had a lovely afternoon spending time with each other and with the apprentices, doing something fun to get into the spirit of Easter. Thank you to all the young people at Livv, we really appreciate it.”
