Conference aims to deliver a grassroots blueprint for reviving high streets and hitting government’s 1.5 million homes target

Ahead of the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool, social enterprise Make CIC is hosting a day of conversations and workshops on key regeneration topics. Two parallel conversations, delivering 1.5 million homes and community-led regeneration of our high streets.

The FLIPIM conference will bring together grassroots leaders alongside policy experts to create a tangible, bottom-up vision for delivering ambitious change.

On Friday, September 26, Make CIC will host FLIPIM, a day-long event designed to “flip the conversation” and offer an alternative to traditional regeneration conferences. The event, taking place across two venues in Birkenhead, Make Hamilton and Future Yard, provides a unique platform for community organisers to share the stage with national decision-makers. The central aim is to ensure that the voices of those most affected by development decisions are not just heard but share the stage.

“The government has committed to a bold vision of building 1.5 million homes and action for a community-led revival of our high streets, but we need to make sure that lesser heard voices cut through,” said Liam Kelly, Make CIC . “Our goal with FLIPIM is to demonstrate that community-led regeneration is part of the solution for transforming Britain. That’s why we’re hosting a day that will give room to lesser heard voices alongside those with power and influence.”

The conference is happening just ahead of the Labour Party Conference where the organisers of FLIPIM are expecting to present findings from the day’s workshops to ministers from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.

The event will feature a range of expert speakers, including Alison McGovern MP, Minister of State at the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government; and Knowsley Cllr, Chantelle Lunt, alongside local voices from Hastings, Bristol and Oxford, who have successfully implemented community-led projects.

Attendees will participate in workshops aimed at co-creating a collective vision, which will then be compiled into a report for submission to the government.

FLIPIM is a call to action for anyone who wants to be more involved in shaping their local environment. It is a direct response to current challenges and a powerful demonstration of how change can be driven from the ground up, right here in the Liverpool City Region.
