The Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership is delighted to announce the appointment of Kathryn Macauley to the Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Board as the new representative for Workforce and Skills.

Kathryn is Head of Human Resources at Stanley Enterprise, which operates two of the region’s most iconic attractions – Knowsley Safari Park and Knowsley Hall. With over 16 years of HR experience, including 12 years in the visitor economy, she brings a powerful blend of strategic insight, operational expertise, and a deep commitment to social impact.

Her appointment, following a competitive recruitment process, reflects the board’s ambition to ensure the region’s visitor economy is supported by a skilled, inclusive, and future-ready workforce. Kathryn’s leadership in workforce development, her strong ties to Knowsley, and her passion for social mobility make her a vital addition to the board.

Speaking about her appointment, Kathryn said:

“The visitor economy has the power to unlock opportunity, drive social mobility, and shape the future of our communities. I am joining the board to help ensure that workforce development is not just a priority, but a catalyst for inclusive growth across the region. From Knowsley to the city center, and across all six boroughs, we must create pathways that support people into meaningful, long-term careers. I’ve seen the difference this can make, and I’m proud to bring that experience and passion to the board.”

Kathryn has worked closely with the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority to secure funded training and career development opportunities for staff. She has also led partnerships with local charities and universities to widen access to skills and employment. At Stanley Enterprise, her work is driven by a strong social mission to ensure the business creates meaningful impact in the communities it serves.

Lord Hall of Birkenhead, Chair of the Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Board, welcomed the appointment:

“Kathryn’s appointment strengthens our ability to deliver on the region’s bold ambitions for inclusive growth and workforce development. As we work to position Liverpool City Region as a national leader in tourism and culture, we must ensure that our visitor economy is underpinned by a skilled, diverse, and resilient workforce. Kathryn brings not only deep expertise but also a clear commitment to social impact, which will be vital as we build a sector that reflects the values and potential of our communities.”

Natalie Wyatt, Managing Director of the Liverpool City Region Destination Partnership, added:

“Kathryn’s appointment comes at a time when the region is making bold investments in skills and training to meet the needs of our economy and our communities.

Her experience in workforce development, particularly in supporting people from underrepresented backgrounds into meaningful employment, aligns perfectly with our ambition to create a more inclusive, responsive, and opportunity-rich visitor economy. Kathryn will play a key role in helping us deliver on that vision.”

The Liverpool City Region Visitor Economy Board plays a central role in shaping the strategic direction of the region’s visitor economy, working in partnership with public and private sector leaders to drive growth, innovation, and resilience.
