Three Liverpool City Region businesses honoured at national awards

Three Liverpool City Region businesses took home honours at the annual VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, celebrating the best of England’s tourism industry.

The awards, which took place at Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter, recognize business and individuals who demonstrate excellence in the sector across 20 categories made up of finalists from 16 regional tourism awards competitions.

Sunnyside Guest House in Southport was awarded the Bronze prize in the B&B and Guest House of the Year category while Gold awards went to Titanic Hotel Liverpool in the Large Hotel of the Year category and St Luke’s Bombed Out Church C.I.C in the Resilience and Innovation Award.

This national success comes in a significant year for Liverpool City Region’s Visitor Economy sector after the successfully hosting of the Eurovision Song Contest on behalf of Ukraine and other major events still to come including the Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.

Speaking on the success, Janet Nuzum, Sector Manager of Visitor Economy at Growth Platform said:

“It’s fantastic to see businesses from our region being recognised on a national stage. Whilst we already know that Liverpool City Region’s tourism sector is world class, this year has given us a real opportunity to showcase this to a global audience. These award wins demonstrate not only the strength of the sector but the continued confidence that VisitEngland have in the City Region as a leading UK destination.”

Anthony and Larissa Duffey, Owners of the Sunnyside Guesthouse said:

“We thoroughly enjoyed the incredible night. We are absolutely delighted we’ve achieved the bronze award in the B&B of the year category after competing against the winners of 16 regional finals. We can’t describe how proud we feel right now to have achieved such high recognition from VisitEngland and their panel of esteemed expert judges.

“We had such an amazing evening sharing a table with the incredible Bombed Out Church C.I.C. and Titanic Hotel. The atmosphere on our table was electric and it was clear to see why Liverpool has a reputation for such amazing people. To represent the Liverpool City Region, the most generous and hospitable people in the country was a privilege and an absolute honor.”
