Sefton Sixth Form College Student Secures Place at University of Cambridge’s Jesus College

Naomi Thornton, a student from Sefton Sixth Form College, has had huge success with her A-level results, receiving an offer to study Linguistics at the University of Cambridge starting in September.

Naomi’s determination paid off this summer receiving an A in English Language, an A in Psychology, an A in Mathematics and a B in Chemistry and securing herself a place at the prestigious Jesus College at the University of Cambridge.

Jesus College is one of the leading colleges in the University of Cambridge. It was established between 1496 and 1516 on the site of the twelfth-century Benedictine nunnery of St Mary and St Radegund and accepts just 145 undergraduates each academic year.

When discussing her place, Naomi said:

“Finding out I got into Cambridge was a surreal moment for me. I was so happy when I found out as it meant all the hard work I had put in had paid off and I’m so excited to start university in September.

“I’m so grateful to my tutors and my Personal Development Coach Julie for all their support and encouragement in pursuing my career goal of becoming a Speech and Language Therapist. They really supported me throughout the UCAS process and made it seamless.”

Her journey to attending The University of Cambridge was supported by Sefton Sixth Form Colleges’ Oxbridge Access Programme. The Programme provides students with personalised assistance with the competitive application process. It offers one-to-one support from an Oxford Graduate Tutor, visits to Cambridge and Oxford, mock interviews and talks from guest speakers.

When talking to us about Naomi, Sonia Stirling, Deputy Principal, said:
