Livv Housing Group helps twins thrive through Supported Internship Scheme

Two Year 12 students from Bank View School in Liverpool have had their confidence and social skills boosted by taking part in a supported internship scheme with Livv Housing Group.
Bank View is a special educational needs school for students with complex learning difficulties and twin brothers Anthony and Andrew Owen are the latest students to benefit from doing an internship with Livv. A previous Bank View School student who completed a placement with Livv has since gone on to become an apprentice at the Knowsley-based housing association.
Anthony had already completed a work experience placement with Livv while he was in Year 11, so had a supported internship lined up, but Livv was also able to take on his brother Andrew at the last minute when his planned internship at a car garage fell through due to Covid.
Gareth Davey, Assistant Head at Bank View High School said: “I can’t thank Livv Housing Group enough for what they’ve done for us. They’ve really gone above and beyond by giving the boys the opportunities they have done.
“Andrew and Anthony are both very practically minded but not quite ready for paid employment. They both go to Livv four days a week, going out and carrying out the tasks with the team while continuing their studies here once a week.
“They’ve come on massively because of their time at Livv, their maturity has gone through the roof and it’s helped their concentration levels, their social interaction and communication. It’s like they’re different lads already and there’s still a long way to go in the academic year so I can only see it getting better.
“Livv have been absolutely brilliant and we’re grateful for their support, and they’re getting loyal, dedicated workers from the programme so it’s a mutually beneficial relationship. Not many employers would go as far to help our students out as they have and that’s continued even through the Covid pandemic.”
Sharon Marsh, Livv Housing Group’s Executive Director of Resources, said: “We’re delighted to have Anthony and Andrew with us this year, they’ve done great work already and have really come on in terms of confidence, which is lovely to see. The supported internship scheme is hugely important for Livv Housing Group as part of our work to deliver a positive impact in the communities we work in.

“Working with Bank View School has been beneficial for ourselves as well as the students and we’ve shown our commitment to the scheme by ensuring that it can continue in a Covid-secure manner for this academic year. I look forward to seeing how far Anthony and Andrew come in the rest of their time with us as we help them get ready for the world of work.”
