Record breaking A Level results for City of Liverpool College

Students from The City of Liverpool College have once again achieved outstanding A-level results across the board, with a pass rate of 97.27% per cent, marking one of the College’s best ever years on record.
This year’s results saw The City of Liverpool College achieve high levels of success, with 11 out of its 15 schools seeing over 98% pass rates. In total, 36% of the College’s students gained A*-B grades in their A Level and Level 3 exams – setting a new record for the College.
This year’s A Level graduates are the first to sit exams since 2019 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, with the classes of 2020 and 2021 receiving grades assigned by teachers. Despite national concerns surrounding how the previous two years and unprecedented structural changes to learning would impact this year’s learners, students of The City of Liverpool College have gone against the grain, achieving some of the College’s highest results to date.
The raving success of this year’s results put the College’s students in an excellent potion to progress into their desired next steps, whether that be going on to the world of work, higher education, or higher-level qualifications.
A high percentage of pupils achieved places to study at their desired higher education destination. This year’s leavers will go on to study a wide range of courses all over the country, such as Law at University of Manchester, Financial Mathematics at University of Liverpool, Psychology at University of Brighton and Biomedical Science at University of Sheffield.
Among those celebrating was Yentel Russell, 19, who moved to Liverpool from Curacao in 2019. The former Vice President of the City of Liverpool College Student Union took home A*, A and B in her A Levels which secured her a position in her first-choice university, University of Liverpool, to study International Relations and Spanish. After moving from the Caribbean just before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, this year’s A Level exams marked the first set of official assessments she has taken in the UK.
On returning to education following the Covid-19 pandemic, Yentel Russell said:
“It was definitely bit strange coming from the pandemic and getting used to in-person teaching and taking official exams after so many years, but I feel like we got a lot of support to get through it.”
Elaine Bowker, Principal and Chief Executive of The City of Liverpool College, said:

“We’re so proud of this year’s A Level students for working incredibly hard and achieving the results that they deserve. Given the challenging couple of years learners have faced, I’m so pleased that they have managed to achieve what they have with their results.

“The talent that exists in the Liverpool City Region never fails to astound me and the results that these students have achieved despite the obstacles put in front of them is testament to that, as well as the high quality teaching that we pride ourselves on at The City of Liverpool College.

“As the largest college in the city, we’re determined to play our part in providing a vibrant learning environment, to allow us to nurture and develop the skills that this fantastic city needs to both recover following the pandemic, and continue to grow and be internationally competitive.

“This academic year has seen us make huge strides in advancing our offer, further forging close partnerships with industry and developing brand new courses to ensure that we can provide our students with the skills they need to enter the world of work.

“Whether our students move on to higher education, take up an apprenticeship or go into full time employment, we’re passionate about providing them with the tools they need to succeed in whatever path they choose, helping to build our city region’s future workforce.”

Hundreds of 16-18 year olds received their results at the college, which runs A Level and level 3 courses and apprenticeships for both school leavers and adult learners.
