LCR Grad Scheme Host Networking Breakfast for Local SMEs

The LCR Grad Scheme aims to connect local graduate talent with SMEs across the Liverpool City Region. The Scheme is open to graduates from all universities. Part-funded by the European Social Fund and delivered by the University of Liverpool, it is transforming the way local small businesses recruit graduate talent.

Since launching, the Scheme has placed graduates with SMEs across a range of sectors, including technology, marketing and professional services. Businesses involved in the scheme include vTime, STEM Women and Oil Salvage Ltd.

On Thursday 6th October at 8.30am, the project team invites representatives from local SMEs to a Networking Breakfast at the iconic Spine Building, Paddington Village, to hear from businesses who have already successfully hired graduates, and meet graduates currently in their talent pool and looking for roles.

The event will offer an opportunity for networking between local businesses and an insight into this tailored approach to recruitment and talent development.

Alongside working for an SME in the thriving Liverpool City Region, graduates who join the scheme will also benefit from a six-month Training and Development Programme to develop skills and further support their employers’ needs.

Paul Redmond, Director of Student Experience and Enhancement at University of Liverpool, summarises the importance of this initiative below:

‘For so long we’ve been an exporter of graduates, but it’s time now to keep our graduates here. There are so many talented young people coming through our universities who are not accessing the opportunities available to them, and likewise many SMEs struggle to find the skills they need to help their businesses grow. LCR Grad Scheme is a brilliant way to help us bridge that gap.’

Liz Macdonald, HR Business Partner at vTime, which has recruited an LCR Grad in September 2021, said:

‘Through this scheme, we’ve hired an amazing programmer, and our intention is to continue working with this great initiative. Had it not been for LCR Grad Scheme, we simply wouldn’t have had access to this incredible talent pool.’

If you’re a business looking to tap into a diverse graduate talent pool of all disciplines, and support our city region to retain talent, register to attend our event here.
