Liverpool Health Partners (LHP) is announcing a new strategic era for the city’s academic health science system

In a bold move, designed to refresh and invigorate the city’s research system, LHP is undergoing a relaunch to ensure we meet the challenging health needs of our local population post-pandemic.

Having delivered the goals set for our previous strategic period, 2019-2022, Partners are now moving into a new era of collaboration, building on these solid foundations to create a refreshed research vision and delivery vehicles to take us forward for the next three years.

LHP SPARK (the Single Point of Access to Research and Knowledge) remains at the heart of the Liverpool research community, facilitating and delivering solutions for investigators and research teams. Its services are uninterrupted, including support for study set up, grants and sponsorship.

Three LHP programmes continue their work to transform the health of the local population, hosted directly by NHS Partner Organisations: Starting Well (Alder Hey), Cardiovascular (Liverpool Heart and Chest) and Neuroscience and Mental Health (Mersey Care, The Walton Centre and Alder Hey).

Cancer research continues to be led by The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre in partnership with the University of Liverpool; recognising the huge importance in improving health outcomes for the region and the successes of the Liverpool Clinical Research Facility and national collaboration as an Experimental Cancer Medicine Centre.

Updates will follow as the new strategy develops.

Dawn Lawson, Chief Executive of LHP, said: “We are extremely proud of the achievements of Liverpool Health Partners and the fulfilment of our Strategic Plan 2019-22. I would like to thank colleagues for their hard work and relentless commitment to collaboration over the last three years.

“This delivered significant grant income, reduced study set up times, two new Clinical Research Facilities and increased research capacity.  Liverpool’s rapid and effective research response to the COVID crisis – Liverpool STOP COVID – was exemplary.

“These achievements provide a brilliant springboard for the Partners to drive forward the next phase of our journey – a new vision for health research in Liverpool to tackle and deliver against the health challenges our population face today post-pandemic.”
