Liverpool-based coffee roastery teams up with Alder Hey to launch exclusive Christmas coffee blend

Five pounds to be donated to the charity with every bag of the new blend sold

Bean Coffee Roasters has reunited with Alder Hey Children’s Charity ahead of the festive season, to bring a Christmassy blend to its customers and raise much-needed funds for Liverpool’s iconic hospital.

Named after Alder Hey’s elephant mascot, ‘Oli’s Blend’ was specially crafted by members of the hospital’s charity department during a recent trip to Bean Coffee’s roastery at Brunswick Business Park.
The Alder Hey charity team learnt all about roasting and how to use their tasting and smelling senses to find different flavour notes. At the end of the session, everyone came together to select which of the single origin beans would make up the blend, unanimously it was chosen to be a mix of Brazil DBarbosa and Ethiopia Chelichele.
Oli’s Blend will be available to buy online from Wednesday, November 9, in Bean stores around the North West and on the Alder Hey charity shop website from Monday, November 14. It will cost £8 for 200g, with £5 being donated to support the great work that Alder Hey does.

Speaking about the partnership, managing director of Bean Coffee, Jon Whyte, said:

“It has been a real privilege to work with Alder Hey Children’s Charity throughout this year, as it is such a great local cause.

“We want to try and raise as much as we can, along with our customers, and a great way for us to do that was to create a special festive blend.

“We had a great afternoon with the team from Alder Hey at our roastery, tasting and choosing the beans to go into the blend.

“We really enjoy the blend the team selected, and we hope lots of people get to enjoy it as their first cup on Christmas morning.”

Cath Harding, head of community fundraising for Alder Hey Children’s Charity, was part of the team who created the new blend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience:

“It was fabulous to spend the afternoon with our friends from Bean, learning all about the origins of its coffees and soaking up the team’s enthusiasm and love for their craft.

“I was just delighted to help choose the Alder Hey Christmas blend and can’t wait to taste it over the festive season!”

Becky Parsons, corporate partnerships officer at Alder Hey Children’s Charity, said:

“Our partnership with Bean Coffee is really special to us and the charity team is so excited that we’ve been able to help choose the special blend for our Christmas coffee.

“Bean welcomed us into its roastery and taught us all about the flavours within coffee and the roasting process. It was a really fantastic experience!

“With a very generous £5 from every pack going to Alder Hey, we hope that the new blend will be a really popular choice this Christmas.

“Every pack sold will help make a difference to the children and young people we care for at Alder Hey.”

This will be the second product that Bean has created with Alder Hey, after the Special Edition Brazil DBarbosa launched in March and is still available to buy online and in stores.
