Based at the Science Park in Liverpool, award winning BioGrad are fast becoming the most influential business with Liverpool City Region’s Open Health Innovation sector.
The work of BioGrad Diagnostics put Liverpool firmly in the centre of the UK’s COVID response with 94 companies using BioGrad’s PCR services nationwide. For the past 9 years BioGrad Education has been attracting elite science and medical students from 21 countries to Liverpool for advanced laboratory and clinical training which has built a global reputation for the BioGrad Group.
The business accessed support from the LCR High Growth Programme for Capital Growth Fund investment via St Helens Chamber. The investment supported BioGrad in opening a new headquarters with stem cell centre and commercial biobanking facility in Wavertree Technology Park. The grant helped towards the building costs for new laboratories and clinical facilities, which culminated in the company signing their first international clinical trial in July 2023.
Leading in scientific innovation and education, BioGrad have hugely expanded their business since establishing just 9 years ago and were recently named as list leaders for ‘Open Health Innovation’ on Growth Platform’s #AmbitiousLCR List.

As a result of the grant from LCR High Growth Programme we have successfully moved into UTI screening, with our work benefitting up to 150 million affected people worldwide. This funding will hopefully lead to direct investment into the Liverpool City Region healthcare system, with costs to local NHS service providers being reduced.”
The LCR High Growth Programme was specifically designed to support high growth (or high growth potential) businesses in the Liverpool City Region to adapt, innovate, and grow.
Capital Growth Fund delivered by St Helens Chamber is part of the LCR High Growth Programme that is part funded by ERDF and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and delivered by Growth Platform – Liverpool City Region Growth Company.
