Knowsley Council Wins at National Planning Awards

Knowsley Council’s Planning service has scooped the Royal Town Planning Institute’s National Award for Planning Excellence on 21 November 2023 for the Shakespeare North Playhouse project.

Earlier this year, Knowsley Council’s ambitious plan to deliver a world class cultural venue and spearhead wider regeneration in Prescot won the award for Excellence in Planning for Heritage and Culture and was named the Best Overall Project at the North West Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards for Excellence 2023.

As a regional winner, the project was put forward to compete in the RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence National Awards and it was announced the winner at the awards evening on 21 November 2023.

The awards recognise and reward the brightest talent in the planning profession; the most outstanding plans, projects and people helping to transform economies, environments, and communities.

Cllr Tony Brennan, Knowsley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Economic Development said:

“I am delighted that our planning service and the Shakespeare North Playhouse project has been recognised at the National RTPI Awards.

“It was an honour to win the North West Award earlier this year and is a great achievement that we have been successful at a national level.

“I’m delighted for our dedicated team of officers and partners who worked for many years to deliver our ambitious plan for Prescot and that their efforts have, quite rightly, been recognised nationally.

“What we have delivered in Prescot is a truly amazing theatre and visitor attraction for everyone to visit and enjoy.”
