Exciting new details have been revealed about the amazing events lined up to accompany the renowned art exhibit, Gaia, in Birkenhead Park from Tuesday 28 May to Thursday 30 May.
Luke Jerram’s iconic ‘Gaia’ exhibition – a three-dimensional representation of our planet Earth – is coming to Birkenhead Park for three days this half term as part of Wirral’s year as Liverpool City Region Borough of Culture 2024.
Gaia will be located by the Grand Entrance and will be open during the following times:
- Tuesday 28 May – 1pm to 10pm
- Wednesday 29 May – 10am to 10pm
- Thursday 30 May – 10am to 10pm*
(* there will no access under Gaia from 4pm on Thursday 30 May)
To celebrate the exhibit coming to Wirral, world-renowned outdoor arts organisation Walk the Plank have created a brilliant programme of events for families to enjoy this half term.
Walk the Plank’s Senior Producer, Bev Ayre said:
“These three days are not to be missed this half term. It’ll be a highlight of Wirral’s year as Borough of Culture.”
Tuesday 28 May – Dance Around the Globe:
Artists and community groups from across Wirral will be dancing around the globe, providing audiences with a chance to try out Yoga, Tai Chi and line dancing under the magnificent earth. Mersey Morris men will be shaking their hankies and jingling their bells at a special evening performance.
Wednesday 29 May – Love Your Earth Day:
This day will be showcasing local community groups who are putting in the work to improve our environment. Come along and meet Scouse Flower House and Wirral Environmental Network, try your hand at willow weaving, learn about bee keeping, make a rocket from recycled plastic containers and help feed lettuce to a giant animatronic tortoise.
Thursday 30 May – Wirral Sings:
Join us for a showcase of Wirral’s musical talent, including a special appearance from TikTok star Michael Aldag. The evening will see a fire-lit concert take place featuring a second half “mini proms in the park” by Flat Pack Music. Bring a camping chair, picnic and settle down to hear some of the country’s finest opera singers and local choirs give a concert like no other. All lit by fire under a magical Earth.
…and don’t miss the People Powered Rocket!
On Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 May, Walk the Plank will be bringing their astonishing pedal powered train – an environmentally friendly take on George Stevenson’s Rocket locomotive – to the park. Carrying six Victorian pantomime horses heading to New Brighton on their jolly holidays, there will definitely be some horsing about, so come down and get your friends and family involved!
