The Low Carbon Eco-lnnovatory (LCEI) is a project part-funded by UKSPF delivered by Liverpool John Moores University, the University of Liverpool and Lancaster University.
Supporting collaborative partnerships in the Liverpool City Region.
LCEI offers free assistance to help local companies develop new and improved goods, processes and services, through collaborative partnerships with university researchers, students and academic staff. The programme enables SMEs in Liverpool City Region to access world-leading expertise and facilities such as laboratories, workshops and libraries.
The project is not bound by sector, and is not exclusively for traditional ‘green’ products. Companies from any sector can receive assistance. Current projects span Engineering, Environmental Science, Electronics, Chemistry, Planning, Management, Architecture, lntergrative Biology, Computing Science and Mathematics. Any potential innovation or research idea that can contribute to a reduction in CO2 emissions can be considered.
LCEI can also work with your organisation to identify new opportunities for low carbon development that will ultimately bring about economic and environmental benefits to both your business and the wider community.
What support is available?
LCEI will provide eligible companies with unbiased specialist advice, reports and product testing from dedicated researchers plus academic experts as well as:
- 3-year PhD and 1-year Masters projects that include graduates working full-time on your project.
- 3 to 6 month supervised dissertation projects
- 1-month paid internships
LCEI has been designed to significantly benefit your business in areas including:

AlI LCEI services are free of charge, except for PhDs and Masters, that fund full-time graduate researchers to work on your project for a £6,000 annual contribution.
